About Us
Our
Story
Hello, and thank you for your interest in The Enlightenment Theatre Project. We are a group of public historians and performers creating a series of shows on inspirational figures from the Enlightenment era.

Why the Enlightenment, you might ask? Because it was a time of social change, free thinking, and vigorous dialogue among the public, scholars, and philosophers. People gathered in coffee houses and pubs across Europe to discuss new ideas and inventions. Democracy, free thinking, and freedom of religion as we know it today came to fruition during this period! And, as authoritarianism rises across the globe today, we might conclude that these principles are as important as ever.

The first pilot features Samuel Johnson in London on September 5th. Next will be Benjamin Franklin in Paris. We are hoping to feature compelling figures in shows across Europe in the next few years, so if you have a character in mind, please let us know! Historic coffeehouses and pubs tend to make perfect venues.
Let’s Work Together
We are forever in search for compelling stories and quality actors for potential shows across Europe. If you have a character in mind, please let us know! Historic coffeehouses and pubs tend to make perfect venues.
